After 10 years of research and writing I am pleased to announce the publication of my first adult novel, titled “A Ring of Promises”.

The story was inspired by family folklore and subsequent research into the lives of my paternal grandparent’s. Some very interesting facts emerged regarding their immigration to Canada from England and Scotland.

It is a fictional story that is anchored with the uncovered truths about their experiences. Not enough is known about the details of their immigration to write a memoir so instead I used my imagination to fill in the unknowns.

Here is a bit of a teaser about the story: A simple plan to get settled in Canada and send for his fiancée becomes a saga full of romance, tragedy and adventure surrounded by enduring love and marred by grief. The reader gets a peek into life in Canada, England and Scotland from 1912 to 1916. The original poetry and songs of the real William Parker are woven seamlessly into the story.

The book chronicles the parallel stories of the characters while separated by an ocean, beginning with the sinking of the Titanic through to the First World War.

Hi Marie…Just finished reading the prologue.
I enjoyed how you guided the reader gently, having us trek long as you filled us in on needed details of the story . I liked where this story was going…the history of your family….I wish I knew more about mine. Anyway, you continued telling us your story, and yeas I want to know more, I want to know it all.

Marie, I began the book last night and am pulled in by your detail and immediacy of experience as you move from your discovery of the letters to the actual story. Won’t be putting this down until it is finished!

Marie, I couldn’t put the story down, not even to work on my Granddaughter‘s grad quilt. I laughed, I cried and I got goosebumps. Your words took me on Will’s journey and provided me with a glimpse of life in early Canada.
