Promise of the Bluebell Woods

I’ve buried myself over the past few months in the writing of “Promise of the Bluebell Woods.” It’s now with my editor and we’ll see when she’s done wth it how long it will take to bring it to fruition.

Meanwhile I am working on concepts for the cover. For Rod and Pearl, the two main characters of the novel, the Bluebell Woods in Cassiobury Park are a magical place that has been a part of many of the significant stages of the development of their relationship. I sit here trying to imagine what those woods look like today.

It’s March and I imagine the Bluebell Woods will be coming into the height of their glory in the not too distant future — or perhaps they’re already in bloom. Here in Canada winter is just departing and the first crocuses are in bloom after a few days of unusually warm weather in London, Ontario where I am at the present time. Back home in the Haliburton Highlands snow is melting more quickly than usual causing the closing of snowmobile trails and flooding of yards and basements. I don’t imagine there are any flowers in bloom there just yet.

If anyone living near Cassiobury Park is reading this perhaps you can take a picture of what is happening there right now? I’d love to bear witness to the arrival of the blooms — even if only vicariously.

I remember the first time my husband’s Aunt took us there during the blossoming of the bluebells. Tiny blue floral heads waved at us as breaths of wind danced amongst them. The image of the blue haze through the dappled light on the forest floor has stayed with me and seemed the perfect location for the marking of life events for Pearl and Rod. I’ll be interested to hear your impressions when the novel is finally ready and released to your discerning minds.

Enjoy the coming of spring as it officially arrives tomorrow and savour the new life that it brings. I cannot leave this post without a prayer for our friends in Ukraine — a prayer for the swift end to the atrocities wrought upon them by the Russian forces and a thank you for standing firm to uphold the values of freedom.

  2. Hi Marie, I look forward to reading your soon to be published “Promise of the Bluebell Woods.”
I read ” Ring of Promises,” during the early part of Covid. The story held romance, challenges and tragedies,
all skillfully pulled together, by it’s amazing writer. I was kidnapped by this book. Thank you Marie….and again, look forward to my next kidnapping. Take good care, Hugs

Don’t need to be professional shots — just something to put on the blog. No worries if you would rather not.
