William Parker’s journal of the canoe trip escape from Port Nelson is the historical document that triggered my investigation of his immigration to Canada. I had to know why my grandfather was in Port Nelson and what he was escaping from. The prim and proper man I knew was not a thief and would not have stolen anything, much less a canoe. There had to be a story.
This need took me to the internet where I discovered that Port Nelson was intended to be the terminus of the Hudson Bay Railway: The Port of the Prairies as it was known at that time. Needing to know more about what was happening with the workers there that would have driven my grandfather to steal, sent me to the Library and Archives of Canada for more intense research. You will have to read the book to find out what I discovered!
Readers of “A Ring of Promises” are curious about the journal and what his journey was really like. As a result I am offering, for a limited time, a free copy of the transcript of the canoe trip journal to anyone who purchases an ebook. The price of the ebook has been decreased to $2.99 (or equivalent in other currencies) as an additional incentive to purchase. The link and password to the newsletter that contains this transcript will be found at the end of the ebook.
My ulterior motive with this offer is to achieve 50 (or more) honest reviews before November 30th. So, please consider writing a review on Amazon after reading the book.
To those who have already purchased the book I am happy to share the code and link with you if you email me using the contact form of the website.
